Bodegas Faustino Rioja Faustino I Gran Reserva Tinto
Description: Ruby-red. Wild, meaty aromas of dried red fruits, floral oils, pipe tobacco and cured meat. Smooth, appealingly sweet and smoky, offering redcurrant and cherry flavors and a hint of candied rose. Notes of vanilla and mocha carry through a long, smooth finish, which shows just a whisper of tannins. Decidedly old-school; fans of the type will likely find my score low. -- 90 pts, Stephan Tanzer, International Wine Cellar

The 2000 Gran Reserva, a blend of 86% Tempranillo, 9% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo aged for 26 months in American and French oak, has a dusty, leathery nose with touches of soy. The palate is nicely balanced with leathery black fruit and a dry, smooth licorice-tinged finish. Drink now-2018. 88 points, Wine Advocate
