Trentadue La Storia Merlot Alexander Valley
Description: Winemaker Notes: "The 2011 harvest was the fourth in a row of unusually cool weather years in Northern California. The challenge to growers and winemakers was presented by 3 rain events in the month of October. The relatively cool overall season produced wines with brighter fruit aromas , higher acid levels and intensely colored wines. The average sugar at harvest was 24.7 Brix-almost ideal for making high quality, age worthy wines. The fermentation was completed in two separate tanks with two different yeast clones. Post fermentation the wine was aged on the grape skins for a total of 21 days. Post pressing the wine was racked and pumped into 42% new, mostly French and other European oak barrels, the rest went in to older, mixed barrels. Most of the wine for the final La Storia blend came from Block 500.

Our 2011 La Storia Merlot is a fine example of the ability of this classic Bordeaux variety to make solid, tasty and age worthy wines. The main aromas and flavors are of dark cherry, plums, a bit of black licorice and herbs. The
new oak contributes a touch of vanilla, brown sugar, cocoa dust and slight toast. On the mouth the wine is almost heavy but balancing the acidity and the tannins well for such a young wine."
