Australia

A little persistence helped launch Australia\'s wine market, which is now the fourth-largest in the world. Vine cuttings from the Cape of Good Hope were transported to New South Wales in 1788, but wine wasn\'t available for sale until 1820. It took the next group of settlers to successfully cultivate the grapes. From its humble beginnings, Australia now exports more than 400 million liters of wine a year. 07 D'Arenberg 'The Laughing Magpie' Shiraz Viognier McLaren Vale Winery Notes: Very dark rich-looking appearance with a black-crimson hue suggesting a complex, youthful dry red. The aroma is intense and still quite undeveloped with a floral mix of peach stone, jasmine and cranberry juice overriding dark maraschino cherries, star anise and spiced fruit cake. If you give the wine a vigorous decanting you’ll see amongst the floral & vegetative earthy notes a dominance of white pepper & plum notes mixed with root vegetables such as parsnips and beetroot, along with hints of roasted black tea, black olives and edges of fragrant garden herbs.
