04 Allegrini Palazzo della Torre IGT
"Allegrini's Palazzo della Torre (70% Corvina, 25% Rondinella, 5% Sangiovese) has long been one of my favorite ripasso-style wines and the 2004 is another winner. It reveals a plump, juicy personality loaded with perfumed, jammy fruit, roasted coffee beans and new leather. Although it is absolutely irresistible today, a few additional months of bottle age should help soften the wine further. It is a gorgeous effort at this level and a terrific value. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2010." 90 points. -- Wine Advocate

"Antinori's 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Pian delle Vigne presents a dark expression of Sangiovese. This deeply-colored Brunello is made in a round, supple style with dark cherries, violets, tobacco and earthiness. It offers notable concentration in a fairly international style, with building but finessed tannins on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019." 92 points. -- Wine Advocate

01 Antinori Guado Al Tasso
"Tenuta Belvedere is the Antinori property in Bolgheri, once part of an enormous estate from which the vineyards of both Ornellaia and Sassicaia were carved out. After an excellent 1998, the wines of both 1999 and, particularly, 2000 were significantly less successful, but the 2001 Guado al Tasso should help forget this temporary unevenness. A dense ruby with purple highlights, the wine is loaded with aromas and flavors of perfectly ripe blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, minerals, sage, and thyme. The wine is more fragrant and more finely-spun than Antinori’s other Bordeaux wine, Solaia, but there is no lack of concentration and density here, though both are tempered by a satiny texture and polished tannins which are all elegance and breed. Drink: 2006-2021." 95 points. -- Wine Advocate

02 Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano
"New-oak and raw-fruit aromas create a sharp, somewhat angular bouquet holding the slightest hint of vinegar. Airing reveals smoky notes and more richness. Plenty of cherry and berry on the palate mixed with cedar and vanilla. The mouthfeel, meanwhile, seems a little heavy." 86 points. -- Wine Enthusiast

95 Banfi Excelsus Castello Banfi Montalcino
"Deep cherry ruby with some brick in the rim. By comparison with the 97, the bouquet is more bashful, hanging back rather than leaping from the glass; there’s delicate cherry fruit with some cherry jam overtones mingled with underbrush, hints of bell pepper, underlying cedar, and slightest pencil shavings. Pleasant. On the palate it’s medium bodied, with deft berry fruit supported by clean sweet tannins that have some cedary overtones and hints of graphite, and flow into a long clean forest berry fruit finish with cedar and grilled pepper overtones that resolve into bitterness with time. Quite nice, and more approachable than the 97 -- rather than demand center stage it will work with foods—stewed veal or beef will be a perfect match, as will grilled red meats, or roast beef that’s not too rare. It’s ready now, though it will also cellar well for at least 5 more years." **Two Bottles Left as of 12/9/07!**(available: 2)

01 Speri Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Sant'Urbano
"The 2001 Amarone Sant’Urbano is vibrant and fresh, with sweet jammy, fruit, spice and chocolate overtones. It offers outstanding length and a slightly bitter note on the finish. Although it offers lovely balance, this is not an especially generous or giving style of Amarone. It is a blend of 70 percent Corvina, 25 percent Rondinella and 5 percent Corvinone. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2013. Speri is a small, family-owned estate with vineyards in the historical part of the Valpolicella zone. Stylistically the Amarones are made in a somewhat austere style. I find that the wines typically benefit from a few hours of air, especially the Recioto." 90 points. -- eRobertParker.com

Rather forward for a wine of its type, it should nonetheless provide fine drinking until 2016-2018."
