03 Adobe Road Dry Creek Valley Syrah
"Intense nose of blackberry and luscious ripe red berry and a hint of smoky cedar give rise to a luscious, dense palate of blueberry, blackberry, herb and dark chocolate. Though this big wine shows a little alcoholic heat on the finish, its crisp acidity and structured tannins provide balance.” — Lynne Char Bennett, San Francisco Chronicle

05 Arns Napa Valley Syrah
Winery notes: This classic Syrah has aromas of beef, pepper, wild berries, ham and spices with an uncommon depth of richness and concentration. The 2004 was tightly wound, and we see the same restraint in the 2005. Age 3-6 years.

07 Bevan Cellars Syrah, Dry Stack Vineyard, Bennett Valley
Winery notes: Our last offering is the 2007 Bevan Cellars Dry Stack Vineyard Syrah. It is a combination of black cherry, roasted meats and white pepper. With decanting it picks up hints of mocha and evolves for hours. The most striking thing about this wine is its richness and how fruit driven it is at an amazingly low alcohol level, 13.3%. We did a 38% saignée (or bleed) for this wine to get the desired level of concentration. The result was a magnification of the fruits natural flavors and acidity. Again we pushed things at the winery, pressing the must to the barrel while the wine was still very sweet. We did this to avoid over extraction from the huge tannin load because we had such a high ratio of skins and seeds to juice. This wine shows amazing balance and will age for a very long time.

06 Big House The Lineup GSM, Central Coast

Winemaker Comments: Each variety of the GSM blend brings its individual characters and distinct personality: blackberries and spiciness from the Syrah, raspberries and a suggestion of rose petals from the Grenache, truffles from Mourvèdre. A wonderful mix of the best each variety has to offer.

06 Quivira Wine Creek Ranch Mourvédre, Dry Creek Valley
Winery Notes: As a finished wine, Mourvèdre has a wild streak running through it that is often described as “animal” or “savage” in its adopted Mediterranean home of Provence. In Quivira’s Dry Creek estate vineyards, this wild expression has been tempered a bit by a degree of ripeness rarely achieved in the old world. The result is a dense, rich, mouth-filling wine with soft tannins and a seemingly endless finish.

06 Seghesio Venom, Sangiovese
Winemaker's notes: Growing and producing world class Sangiovese is not for the faint of heart. Rattlesnakes, thistle and America’s most unique clone of Sangiovese are all that thrive atop Rattlesnake Hill on Seghesio Family Vineyards’ Home Ranch. The shallow topsoil and virtually impenetrable volcanic shale are the perfect foil in taming this vigorous varietal into producing intensely flavored grapes. The clone, planted in 1910 by Edoardo Seghesio in America’s oldest Sangiovese vineyard, produces small-berried, loosely formed clusters.

NV Sokol Blosser Meditrina {5}
Winery notes: In 2004, we discovered a little known goddess named Meditrina, who is the Roman goddess of wine and health! We couldn't believe that thousands of years ago the Romans had enough savvy to name a goddess of wine and health. Named in her honor, this red wine has a core of rich, lush berry from the Syrah. The Zinfandel provides spice, tannin and structure. And the Pinot Noir brings flowers, earth and elegance. It all adds up to a luscious, juicy, easy-drinking mouthful of red wine that's both bright and vibrant yet round and soft.

03 Spencer Roloson La Herradura Vineyard Syrah, Napa Valley
"This wine is almost over the top. If it had any more ripe, jammy fruit, it would be. As it is, it’s balanced enough in tannins and acids so that the flood of blackberry pie and mocha flavors go only so far before dryness and structure kick in to check. Those tannins are a modern-day wonder, ripe, sweet and sturdy." 90 points. — Wine Enthusiast

02 Wild Horse Syrah Paso Robles
Winemaker's Comments: Due to the small berries and low yields of 2002, the wine is richly extracted with chewy tannin, bright acid, and dark color. Aromas include mocha, cherry truffle, and a sweet oak tone, while on the palate; this wine shows flavors of black raspberry, spice, and a lingering brown sugar finish. The big, balanced structure insures this wine will become more soft and complex with longer cellar aging.

05 Zaca Mesa Black Bear Block Syrah
"So delicious, complex and dramatic, it might almost be from the Northern Rhône, except for a certain softness that identifies it as warm California. Hard to describe the waves of blackberries, black and red currants, grilled meat, mocha, licorice, graphite, Tabasco and pepperspice flavors, and how they change every second. This is the best Black Bear Syrah that Zaca Mesa has ever produced. Now through 2012." 94 points. — Wine Enthusiast

With the 2005, they’ve produced a dry, richly tannic wine, with cherry and currant flavors complexed with grilled meat, pepper and a touch of funky old leather. It’s an interesting wine that’s complex enough for a creative sommelier to figure out how to pair it with food." 89 points. — Wine Enthusiast
