09 Bodega Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard Malbec
Bright medium ruby. Tighter on the nose than the Nicasia bottling, hinting at black fruits and flowers. Then surprisingly smooth and suave in the mouth, with great class to the dark berry, game and bitter chocolate flavors. Penetrating minerality contributes to the impression of precision and verve. Finishes smooth and classically dry, with noble, mouthcoating tannins and superb persistence. I applaud winemaker Alejandro Vigil\'s use of cabernet franc to contribute perfume to these immensely rich malbec bottlings and wonder why more estates don\'t do this. Rating: 95(+) Points.(available: 4)

08 Bodegas Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino
97 Points The Wine Advocate. The 2008 Argentino Malbec is a blend of 65% Adrianna and 35% Nicasia fruit. It, too, spent 24 months in 100% new French oak. The Argentino offers a similar aromatic and flavor profile but with just a bit of extra nuance, presumably because of the blending. Dense, rich, and voluptuous, this lengthy effort should easily achieve its 20th birthday in peak form. It will be most enjoyable to taste these three wines side-by-side in another 10-15 years.(available: 6)

13 Luca Malbec Uco Valley Mendoza
This is a great example of Mendoza Malbec. Incredible color—could use it in an inkwell! Loads of spice and black cherry cola aromas with notes of cocoa. The berry flavors really pop on the palate as the wine has both good depth and very lively acidity that leads to an incredibly long finish. A bottom note of freshly brewed espresso keeps the mouth watering too. Pairs well with foods such as venison or wild game, steak, pork, quail, all types of lamb, and medium-strong cheeses. A very flexible wine due to its concentration and balance.

13 Marchiori & Barraud Malbec
There\'s more obvious oak in the 2013 Cuartel Dos Malbec, a wine sourced from a specific plot - cuartel 2 - in the Marchiori vineyard at 990 meters altitude in Perdriel, Luján de Cuyo. The wine fermented in stainless steel vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in new French barriques for 18 months. As I mentioned, you feel the oak, but it\'s not excessive, even though 18 monthsin new wood sounds like too much. It shows a high degree of ripeness and the fruit is black rather than red with some earthy notes and plenty of spices. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with what seems like to-be-integrated acidity. It still has tannins to be resolved, and ends quite dry, so one or two years in bottle should do it good.
