Wine production began in Argentina over 400 years ago when Catholic priests settled in the area. They planted vineyards near their monasteries, so they would have wine to celebrate Masses. Ideal soil conditions, especially near the Andes Mountains, helped the vines take off throughout the years. In 1995, Wine Spectator\'s Thomas Matthews noted \"One winery in Argentina is leading the charge to bring its country\'s wine up to world class standards,\" and Catena leads the way in Argentina. While Mr. Matthews wrote these words more than 10 years ago, still in 2009 these words still ring true. Check out more than 40 Argentine selections available for purchase now on our Web site! The palate runs full and lush, with sweet tannins running alongside blackberry, cassis and chocolate flavors. Holds it together on the finish, but overall the wine is more generic than individual.\"
