Altocedro Malbec La Consulta Gran Reserva
Description: The 2012 Malbec Gran Reserva is sourced from a very old vineyard in La Consulta. The Malbec is co-fermented with 3% Semillon grapes in new French oak barriques that are turned 8-10 times per day during the vinification. The wine ages in these new French oak barrels or two years. Even though the oak feels better integrated than in the 2012 Reserva, it's also one year older, so time in bottle might have polished some of the edges. The nose is balsamic, with notes of cigar ash and incense over a core of ripe cherries. The palate feels quite compact, with plenty of sweet spices and fine tannins. Not a shy wine at 15.5% alcohol. An XXL Malbec.
